1. Ambition is a positive, desirable trait in a person. Strongly agree
2. If you are in a position of power, you are happy. neither agree nor disagree
3. Everyone is capable of lying, betrayal, and violence, which are basic parts of human nature. strongly agree
4. Who we are--our essential character and temperament--is fixed and unchangeable. disagree
5. Women are more compassionate and less violent than men. neither agree nor disagree
6. Sometimes you have to do things other people consider wrong to get ahead. agree
7. Some things are destined or fated to happen. agree
8. If something is destined to happen, it will happen without your interference. disagree
Ambition is one of the most desirable qualities in human being. anyone who has changed the world in a good way is ambitious; anyone who is the best at what they do is ambitious. Most everyone who sets a goal and accomplishes it is ambitious. Ambition is having a want to do better, be the best you can be, and having a want to accomplish goals.
Being in a position of power can be a good or bad thing. If you think about the good things, you are a leader, an important person that plays a big role in the control of an area. You get benefits like protection and typically a large salary. Some of the downs would be not being able to live the life you want, having to endure the hatred of people who don't support you, and having to act certain way, because if you don't you will be ridiculed.

hit or miss
I enjoyed writing the literary analysis the most. For me, it was very structured, starting off with a good thesis statement. From the get go I had it all planned out in my head. I also am pretty good at arguing a point and can usually do a good job of getting it across, All these contributing factors helped me write a pretty good literary analysis.
The paper I had the most trouble with was definitely the research paper. To start off with my topic, and thesis were not very good, prohibiting me from writing to my fullest extent. Also my social studies teacher did not provide much constructive criticism on my topic for me to improve my writing. All of these factors hindered my writing.

Post 2, week 4
Although we are reading a challenging book, it has been not-so challenging for me. I have personally enjoyed this book so much and I think I know why. To start off I decided to do reading responses for my Bread and Butter assignments rather than annotating and I feel that this has given me time to really enjoy and immerse myself in the book. Even though I did do the reading responses I still would underline key parts that would help me write my reading response. my advice for anyone reading this book next year would be to do the reading responses.

What I'm grateful for
I am grateful for many things in my life like the nice school I get to go to, or my parents who do so much for my, or my whole entire family that supports me. There is one thing I am especially grateful for and it tops off everything else on my list, and that thing is the country we live in. there are so many things we are able to do that other people in different countries aren't.
I started to realize how lucky I was to be an American when I was in the 4th or 5th grade, when I started paying attention to the news and learning about our constitution. All throughout my childhood the U.S. was at war in the middle east and it made me glad to realize how stable and civilized our country was, and how we don't have to be in a constant fear for our lives. I think some of us nowadays don't realize how fortunate we are to live in this great country that so many people have fought and died for.

Political Post
One political topic that affects us all is gun control. The article I read shows how cities that have strict gun control laws are still plagued with gun violence. One example used was how 1 person is shot everyday in Ontario, Canada even though guns are banned.
I believe this article sheds some light on why gun control laws are not very affective. Typically communities with higher rates of gun ownership have lower gun violence rates, because people don't wait for help to arrive, they are their own protection. For example no one is wants to invade a home if they know everyone in that neighborhood has guns/. places like Chicago, where guns have been banned, have had the greatest crime rates. Chicago had over 700 murders this year even though they have banned all guns. Most of these murders were committed with stolen firearms, which comes to show that law- abiding citizens will always obey the law even if they are carrying a gun.

reflection
Something that I have learned about myself is that I know how important homework is and how important it is to get homework done, I feel as if I continue high school with this attitude I will succeed in graduating.
I used to put off work, and sometimes not even do it, but when I got to high school I realized how important work was. I realized how bad one 0 can affect your grade.

This weekend I got very lucky. I got the opportunity to go to my family's place in South Texas and I enjoyed every minute of it. My dad scheduled this trip for himself and a couple of his buddies to go turkey hunting, but I was not invited because I had a cotillion dance and school. When I woke up on Friday my Dad was home because he was getting ready to leave and I asked him in front of my mom if I could go, but he said no and she said yes. I eventually got to go after negotiating.
While I was there I did many things. We got there Friday and I got to do a little bit of work on the bulldozer, but not much since we got there kind of late. Saturday morning I went turkey hunting, and then got back on the bulldozer for a couple of hours. Some friends and I then made our way to Taco Jalisco for lunch where I had a taco eating competition with this large husky guy. Long story short, we tied. After we went to Jalisco we came back to the ranch and went to go shoot pistols at the shooting range. After we did that I made my way to the bed and napped from 3:16 until 6:30. I then made my way again to the shooting range, but this time I focused on long range shooting, which I eventually hit a target 865 yards away from me. On Sunday morning I got up and went fishing, then we made our way back to Baton Rouge.

Mardi gras break
I have had a very eventful, long Mardi Gras break. The first 3 or for days were spent in Baton Rouge. I didn't do much of anything except for ride my horse and hang out with some friends. Everything started to pick up the first Monday when my family and I flew to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
When we landed in Ft. Lauderdale I didn't know what to think. I was greeted with Palm trees and warm weather and instantly my stress was relieved. When we got to out hotel I was greeted with nice marble floors and large luxurious rooms. Those few days in Ft. Lauderdale mostly consisted of us swimming in a warm pool in a hotel with cranky old people. Not fun.
After 3 nights at the Ritz Carlton in Ft. Lauderdale, my family and I made our way down to the Florida keys. We stayed at Cheeca lodge in Islamorada with some close friends. This place had a more friendly environment for younger people. Although I liked this hotel, the rooms were dated and the pool was cold. often times my brothers and I were wondering around the hotel, or swimming in the ocean. We then got home at 11:00 Sunday and have been trying to get back into our regular schedule.

Song analysis
The song I am analyzing is called Are the Good Times really over for good by Merle Haggard. This song was released in 1981 and is one of my favorites. Some Poetry techniques invluded are Allusion and simile.
This song contains a ton of Allusions, partly because the singer is comparing how bad times are now and how good they were back then. Haggard uses statements like "a Ford and a Chevy
Could still last ten years, like they should" to show how things used to be. The allusion "It was back before Nixon lied to us all on TV" here Haggard alludes to Nixon and how he was the first president to resign from office. Haggard also uses the simile "Are we rolling down hill
Like a snowball headed for Hell" to show how the state our country is in is diminishing so quickly. There is a rhyme scheme where typically the second and last line in stanza has the words they end in rhythme. "I wish a buck was still silver/ It was back when the country was strong/ Back before Elvis/ Before the Vietnam war came along"\
Haggard uses allusions to show how good out country used to be rather than the state is currently in. It gives this song kind of a dark, sad tone. The similes help prove his point that out country is going into bad times.

research
Two things I have learned during this research process is to do your work, and to complete your work to the best of your ability; it will help you in the long run. One thing that I have been having trouble with is analyzation of my facts. My research paper was 3 pages long, and my teacher said if I added analyzation the facts I have stated my research paper would be about 4 pages.
Reading response
Recently we started ATDPTI. I would have to say this is one of the nest books I have ever read. Typically with books assigned in English, I would be slow to take my book out and start reading, but this book is a different story. I am always excited to read this book. Usually while reading other books I would struggle to meet reading requirements, but with this book I always surpass them
I like how the main character, Arnold, could have not played in the rez game, but did anyway, he showed perserverance. Even throwing up several times before the game he still decided to play, and even when his accident happened he still wanted to play in the game. Arnold is a boy who doesn't give up. From having water on his bran when he was a kid to now being faced with a challenge he never gave up.

Reading response
We started reading a new book in English called Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. The thing I love most about the book is the fact that the main character is so ambitious. He wants to be the best he can be, he wants to be successful, he wants to do anything he ca to escape the poverty stricken world he was born into and would probably remain in if he had not left the rez to go to school.
I wish everyone had the ambition of this boy. The mount of things we would accomplish as a society would probably be plentiful. There would probably be no more pain, poverty, and suffering, but we don't live in a perfect world. People around us don't always have the best attitudes, which sometimes leads to bad things.

This week has been probably the longest school week I have ever experienced. I don't know what about it made it so long, but believe me it felt long. From trying to get my outline completed to almost failing my science quiz, this week is finally over and it is time for a new one this week.
I think one reason the week felt so long was because my schedule was not what I was used to. First things first I didn't go to powerlifting this week, because I had drivers edh, which also took forever. On my two days off (Tuesday, Wednesday) I went to go workout at traction. it was my first time t traction, and my personal trainer, Carlos, and I worked on some things to help me get faster.

My topic is about the Navajo code-talkers in World War 2. The Navajo codetalkers developed a code and used it in the pacific theater. This code was very useful and helped the Americans defeat the Japanese in many different battles across the Pacific. The idea to use the code was proposed by a man named Philip Johnston.
The reason the Navajo code was so useful was because the code could be translated rapidly and verbatim. The reason Johnston proposed this code was because it was mostly oral, and one of the only native tribes that have been infested by German anthropologists,. The code consisted of everyday Navajo ;language and another layer of encryption for military terms like machine gun, and submarine.

Something I learned last semester was something very valuable. I learned not to put off work until tutorial, because I have a tendency to procrastinate. even though I learned this I still tend to do it. I learned not to do this, because often times I have too much homework to complete during that 25 minute duration. I often would do this on other days than Thursday when I only had one tutorial. My recommendation is If you're going to save homework for tutorial do it on a day that you have advisory/tutorial or a double tutorial.
This semester I will try to not save homework for tutorial. I hope by doing this I won't have anymore 0's for homework assignments. I will only use tutorial unless I absolutely need it. Sure, tutorial is helpful, but what is more helpful Is getting all of your homework done.

Research update
My research project is going fairly well. I got all my annotations completed on time, and I feel like I have a good topic. The most difficult part for me would be trying to focus more on the Japanese than the Navajo's. I have found a lot of good credible sources about how the Americans used it, but don't have any details on the Japanese.
I think coming up I will have most trouble with the notecards. I feel like I wont have enough and that I wont have enough content to write a full blown research paper. Luckily we have the writing center so I might go over there one of these days for some guidance.

Over Christmas break my family and I went to our ranch on Charlotte, Texas. To most people a trip to Charlotte may not mean much, but it means a lot to me. This is a place that I can let loose and by myself without worrying what anybody thinks about it. I feel more at home at the ranch in Charlotte than I do at my house in Baton Rouge. Everyday I am homesick, longing for that day I go back to the ranch.
My endeavors in Texas included going to town to get tacos three days in a row, hunting for a deer for 13 days straight, catching up with a buddy of mine who is also a deputy constable, and just relaxing. On the day before we left I shot and killed the buck I was hunting after. I shot him with a bow the second or third day I arrived, but the shot placement was about and inch below the heart. 10 days later I saw him again and finished him with a rifle. I was actually kind of disappointed that I didn't shoot him with a bow, but at the end of the day I still got to kill a 195" whitetail buck.
