Writing center

I had a wonderful experience at the writing center and have already been back for more help on a science paper. While I was there we worked on my thesis, and introduction paragraph. As a result my thesis is now stronger than ever and my introduction paragraph does a good job at grabbing the reader's attention. I would totally recommend the writing center that needs help writing anything.
I recently went to the writing center to get help with a project for science. I spent about 30 minutes there and they helped me complete a 3 paragraph article summary. The writing center is good to go to for anything you need help writing with. I like hoe they don't tell you what to write, and instead give you ideas and guide you in the right direction.

Response to Saveon's prompt

I set my goals according to what I want to accomplish. By doing this I feel as if I am not limited in my accomplishments. If you set goals by what you are capable of achieving they are not rally goals, because you know that you can achieve them. When I set my goals I typically set them pretty high. This summer I want to reach the 1,200 pound club in weightlifting. Last year I though since I was a freshman I wouldn't even get to the 1,000 club, but I worked hard and achieved that goal.
I feel that in order to achieve a goal that you want to, you need to work very hard. When you put hard work in you are most likely going to achieve that goal, but if you put your goal on the backburner of your priorities you will probably not achieve it. When setting a goal you need to be willing to put forth the effort and work, and keep it one of your priorities.

Free Post

As we are nearing my 16th birthday I am beginning to look at rucks for sale on the market I am looking at 3/4 ton diesel trucks (2500 HD, F-250) and I can not make my mind up at all. One day I want a ford and another day I want a Chevy and then the next day I want a ram. I was looking at trucks from the early 2000s, because of the pre emission engines, but started looking at newer ones, because they are more reliable and are covered under warranty.
I will need one of these trucks to pull a horse trailer. Currently I am leaning towards GMC and if I were to get one I would put 20x10 duel lethals, Toyo open country m/t tires, Flo~Pro exhaust with an EFI live by Kory Willis tuner, along with a bodyguard front and rear bumper replacement, with bodyguard nerf bars. I would also like to put a S&B cold air intake, and a FASS fuel pump.

Literary analysis process

The literary analysis has gone o so far. I have my introduction and first body paragraph done so far and still have a long way to go. I like the way my introduction and body paragraph flow.
So far the thing I've had most trouble with is how to start my body paragraphs. Its just hard for me to find a good smooth way to start them. Once I get them started its easy and free-flowing. I also had trouble with my intro when I first started, but I got some help from the writing center and I think the intro is the strongest part.

Symbolism

One time Augustus was riding out on his horse in the south Texas sunrise to find some mavericks, or wild cattle. It was a cold morning, and it seemed like the dew his horse kicked up made it colder. Overhead he heard an owl hoot. Augustus, thinking noting of it continued on his way. when Augustus got to the area he last spotted the mavericks he started to pay close attention to his surroundings and again he heard an owl hoot, and on the edge of the brush stood a lone Comanche in traditional battle attire. Augustus was stunned, because he though Comanche's were modern people. All of a sudden the Comanche  started running towards Augustus and his horse. Augustus was just staring at the Comanche man while his horse spooked and took off. Augustus proceeded to roll off the back of him. Again he heard an owl hoot. Augustus, not sure of the Comanche's intentions, began to ran. The Comanche started to run after him. Augustus was too slow and the Comanche was too fast. When the Comanche caught up with Augustus he grabbed him and started to brutally slaughter Augustus. In Augustus' last minutes the only think he could see or hear was that owl hooting.

In this story the owl represents death. I feel like I could have gotten a lot more detailed, but for the sake of time didn't.

How to get a horse readt to ride

The first step to getting a horse ready to ride is finding a horse to ride. This is the most essential step to this how to. Once you find a horse you want to proceed with brushing him off making sure there are no clumps of dirt or mud on their coat. Make an extra effort to get the area between the two front legs, because this is where the cinch will be going. The next thing you need to do is get all your tack ready like your bridle and your saddle. I typically like to start with saddling the horse then putting the bridle on. When putting the saddle on be sure that its not leaning to any side more than the other and be sure that it isn't too far up on his shoulder blades or too far back. You want to start by tightening the front cinch, making sure it isn't too tight for the horse to be uncomfortable or too loose where the saddle is siding. Proceed with t\doing h same for the back cinch, but you barely want it touching the horses flank. After that's done put on the bridle and you're ready to ride.

Critical LOTF scene

One paragraph I think is important in LOTF is when Jack says "There's nothing in it of course. Just a feeling. But you can feel as if you're not hunting, but- being hunted, as if something's behind you all the time in the jungle." page 53.
I think what Jack says is a combination of foreshadowing and irony. The foreshadowing is that Ralph ends up being hunted in the end and Jack is the one doing the hunting not being hunted. Jack could also be referring to something else out there in the jungle. He could be talking about the Lord of the flies, or the Beast.

Free post 11/13

Well our football season ended last Friday when we lost to Catholic High of New Iberia in the first round of the playoffs. It was a sad night, because it was most of the senior's last time playing football for the rest of their life. I was the only freshman that got a considerate amount playing time and I almost didn't want to play, because I didn't want to screw something up and put my team in even more of a hole. I still had to go out and play and I tried my hardest. I know that to be better next year I will have to work my behind off.
I feel terrible for saying this, but I was kind of ready for the season to be over. I am ready to get home at 4:00 and have time to finish homework. I am ready to go to bed at 9:00. I'm ready to get back into my normal weekend routine where I go ride my horse, or go hunting. I am looking forward to not being sore so much. I know I need to enjoy my time playing football, because there is only three seasons left before its all over.

LOTF response 11/6

Response to passage on pg. 53

This passage to me is clear foreshadowing. Jack is saying that when he hunts it feels like he is being hunted. Now we know that it could be the beast hunting you, or even other people on the island. I feel like now we still haven't gotten to the point that it reveals, but I still think we will get there.
This passage is significant, because it might reveal something that happens later on in the book. It shows that strong people can be hunted and can be scared. It also gives us an idea that there may be something else out there, and no one is safe on the island.

Reading prompt

Write about a time when you have been uncomfortable around somebody. It can be something they said or did, and be sure to specify how you reacted.

One time I felt uncomfortable/awkward/weird/ mad was this past Saturday at an LSU game. My cousins go to school in Alabama and they had came in town to watch the LSU vs. Alabama game. I was so ecstatic to see my cousins, because I haven't seen them in a while. Little did I know something was about to happen.
We were sitting in the suites when the Crimson Tide ran out. I was booing them and my cousin was walking in front of me with a plate of food to bring inside the suite. When I was putting my hands down they accidently knocked the plate out of her hand. Then it fell. It fell to the lower ledge in front of us. While the plate hit no one food splashed everywhere. Everyone below us was looking up at us like we had just killed someone. Finally my dad was like "What do you want us to do? It was an accident, there is nothing I can do." That pretty ,much sums it up and I was angry the rest of the night and couldn't stop thinking about it.

Lotf reading response

Currently we are reading Lord of the Flies as a class in English. So far this book has been enjoyable, even though we have only read the first two chapters. I'm ready for this book to pick up, but I know it will come soon. I couldn't imagine being on an uninhabited island with out any adults and only kids my age and younger.

Human Nature post

I don't think you can really describe human nature. Sure, when not in not in stressful conditions some humans are mean, or nice. When humans are put into stressful survival situations things change a bit. During these situations humans are doing whatever they can do to survive, and not asking how their friend is doing. I think we will see more of this in the LOTF as the story goes on. I can promise you during this stressful survival situation we will see some backstabbing, and things that our gut will wrench from just reading.
I have had a lot of experience around people. Most of the time I'm in large social events I typically observe people. One experience that has helped me understand people is having a horse. It's basic things in horse training that a think about when I see a child begging, or doing something he is not supposed to do. If you let a horse eat grass while you are reading him he thinks its ok to do so. So if you kick him when he bends down he knows not to do that anymore, because he will get kicked. You can do the same thing in parenting.

Reading response

The other day I saw something on social media that was some bad news for ranchers. Beef prices are to remain low through 2019. Wanting to be a rancher this caught my eye, and I wondered how are ranchers going to make it? Other questions raced through my mind like "Do I really want to do this when I get older?" and I have not found the answer yet. Considering I graduate in 2020, which is after 2019, hopefully we will see an upward trend in beef prices, and hopefully raising cattle will be a sustainable way to make a living.
The main reason for the decline in prices is due to a quick herd expansion after years of prolonged drought according to the Texas farm bureau. The USDA projects beef production will rise 5.2% this year and will climb 3.4% in 2017. "The meat sector is expanding across the cattle, hog and chicken industries, putting the U.S. on track for a year of record meat production and declining prices." says the Texas Farm bureau. Fall Break free topic

This fall break has been like no other. The only break I had was two days from school. I still had a regular football schedule. Thursday I had practice from like 9:30-10:45 and Friday I had a football game. I'm not sure if I like having football during fall break, but I will have to get used to it, because this will be the same for the next four years of my life.
Usually during fall break my dad takes my brothers and me to our ranch in Texas. My brothers typically like to hunt during this time of year, but I am not as enthusiastic due to the Texas heat. El Tesoro, our family ranch, is a safe haven for me. I can go there without worrying about anything and can do just about anything I want. When I am there during fall break it is time to relax and just enjoy life. I wish this year I had that opportunity, but I shouldn't frown, because I will be there for thanksgiving.

Response of Louisiana article

I believe that blaming the Great flood of 2016 on climate change is crazy. We have no factual evidence that climate change caused this flood. Just because there was a 0.1 percent chance of this flood happening does not mean that climate change is responsible. I don't even think that rebuilding Louisiana should even be a question. Of course we should! Louisiana is a state defined by it's people and is so culturally diverse. The people here are of like people you have never met. There is only one word that describes us "Louisianans". But then again it is the choice of the people to come back, and I know some people might not, because of the situation we they are in. I think this is a ver broad question, because ut could be talking about re-building Louisiana financially, socially, and physically. I agree that this state needs a lot of work, but the people here always find a way.

Reading response

Currently in Texasville Duane, a bankrupt owner of any oil company is planning the tow of Thalia, Texas' centennial. Already he has planned for the town to have a pageant, and the debate has been over who to hire and what all the pageant will encompass. Some people want the pageant to go all the way back to the creation of Earth and some don't.
I feel like these are typical small town issues and problems. For example the city of Houston wouldn't have a pageant for a centennial celebration and wouldn't debate who to hire, because Houston nearly has 5 million people living in it. I have always wanted to live in a small town it's just so laid back, small, and cozy. I have been to many small towns and have spent some time in small towns.

Free Post

Well, last week we were supposed to write a 100-word FICTIONAL story. While I wrote my 100-word story, it was not fictional. My brother, cousin, and cousins friend actually snuck onto the rural life museum and swam across a like to get to an island with goats on it. Yes, we actually roped the goats and yes, my cousins friend actually rode one.
Today was similar to that Sunday last week with a few exceptions. It was my two brothers this time and my brother's two friends. This weekend there were actually people at the Burden Center so we couldn't go our usual route, we had to make some detours. As we were wondering through the property I thought to myself "What a beautiful place". We got to the outskirts of the lake and we could clearly see the island, but we didn't see any goats. Stewart and Ethan my brother Crawford's friend were starting to doubt Crawford and Me. The previous day my cousin was there and he said he saw the goats, but where were they?! Crawford decided to go a different way back to Burden Street where we had parked our golf cart. My brother led us to a storm creek and we had to end up walking a half mile to our golf cart. That sums up our trip to the Burden Center this week, can't wait to tell y'all what goes on next week!

Texasville reponse

Currently I am reading Texasville by Larry McMurtury. I haven't quite figured this book out yet, but it doesn't really have a story line to it. Texasville mainly just follows around the owner of a bankrupt oil company. I think I like it for this reason. Like I've said in other blogs, and things I've written this is the most hilarious book I've ever read. It is kind of hard to describe the plot, because there isn't really a story going on.

100 word short story

Well lets start this story by talking about what I did today. I woke up at 10:34 and quickly went downstairs to get something to eat. I wanted some fruit, but instead had leftovers, because that was the only thing we had in our fridge. I then proceeded to head upstairs to shower and brush my teeth, after that my mom and I went to Dick's to look for some cleats, buy we didn't find any. We then went to the food court at the mall where I stood in a line for 30 minutes to get some Chinese food. When I got home My brother, cousin and his bestfriend and I decided to go to goat island. We snuck onto the Burden rural life museum's property, walked for about a mile, saw this island in the center of a lake with some goats on it, and we decided to swim out to it. I had brought my team rope, or lasso as you city folk would call it and started roping those goats on that island. It was some of the most fun I have had in awhile, but I don't think it was very fun for the goat. One time I roped it and my cousins friend decided to ride it. That didn't last all but 5 seconds, because the goat could barely hold his weight. Long story short: Those goats probably have PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

advice for a 12-year old

Dear 12-yar old, always do your homework. I have earned this the hard way, it majorly affects your grade later on. Never procrastinate, always do your work if you want to go to bed early. Go to bed early if you can!!! I know it might seem cool to go to bed late, but in reality you are hurting yourself. You need that extra 2 hours of sleep to grow and be energized for the next day. Don't let anybody get to you, because they are minor. Stay focused on your work and trying to be great. Do as many sports as you can, when you get to high school you'll figure out which ones you like best. always listen to your parents, teachers, and coaches. They are yelling for a reason.

Personal Narritive Reading resonse

Currently in English class we are writing personal narratives (Whoooohooo!!!). My narrative is about developing my work ethic and how I did it. If you read my narrative you can definitely tell I was brave for working in the Louisiana heat and yeah brave. I tried to put focus on describing the big and little things, I thought this would help me. For example I described the tractor I worked on, and I gave y'all all the possible detail I could on it. At first my narrative was just kind of an overview of the summers where I developed my work ethic. Then I went back and edited it and now it is one specific scenario. this was kind of hard, because I couldn't think of a specific scenario, so I basically summed up what I did every day and just put them in order in the way they happened. Ever since I put the specific scenario in, my narrative seems less organized.

Hurricane Katrina was a category 3 hurricane that hit New Orleans August 29th, 2005. The people of New Orleans were told to evacuate August 28th. Most of the city evacuate when the storm hit, and the most of the people who stayed either stayed in their house, or found refuge in the superdome. Nearly 2,000 people died, because of Katrina.
Katrina was a terrible natural disaster that brought the community of New Orleans even closer than it was. It reminds me of a situation we just had in Baton Rouge a couple of weeks ago, The Great Flood of 2016. Both situations showed the true colors of both cities in the boot. You could see people of all different shapes, sizes, colors, genders, and religions helping each other. My dad's company Cajun Constructors had a bunch to do with getting all the water out of the city. he also built the flood wall that surrounds New Orleans today.

response to current outside reading book

My current outside reading book is Texasville by Larry McMurtury. Texasville so far doesn't really have a story line to it, it's just following the main character Duane and his family around. Duane is a man in Thalia, Texas who owns an oil company post-boom, when the oil prices are at an all time low. He is going bankrupt, and can only hope for prices to go back up.
This is one of the most funny and relatable books for me, because first it takes place in Texas, and its takes place during the down fall of oil prices. My family has a ranch in South Texas, during the boom all the towns had retail stores and motels opening daily. Now since the prices have gone down, business has kind of left.

Something exciting

Something exciting that has taken place, actually within the past two days was my first varsity football game. We were playing Christian Life and that whole entire school day I found myself not being able to pay attention during any of my classes, I was just thinking about the game. After school was over we ate pica dilly in the cafeteria. I had a scrumptious Hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and spinach. Then Wayne Stabiler, Alders Melton, and I left for UHigh. We got ready in the smelly locker-room t and went out to practice plays in the scorching heat. I really started to get nervous then. When the game started I was still kind of nervous, but when it was my turn to go in believe me I was very nervous. I had gone in, because Wayne had gotten tired. Even though it was the second quarter Wayne played on both sides of the ball, which is very taxing. On my first play of varsity football was just like any other game I had played in seventh or eighth grade. I just did what I know best and that is playing linebacker. On the second play I made my first tackle, then went back out.  Later on n the game I got some more playing time, but overall the experience was awesome and am looking forward to the season ahead

Independent reading response

My independent book I am reading is called Texasville by Larry McMurtry. This is by far one of the most funny books I have read. I would not recommend it if you're under the age of 18, because I can tell you right now it was not meant for a young teenage audience. Every page you read it is guaranteed you will laugh out loud. So far the book is generally about a man that is going broke from the bad oil prices, and his family. I find it easily to relate to, because my family has a ranch in south Texas and the closest town was thriving during the oil boom, new motels and restaurants popping up everywhere, now with the low prices you can see that many businesses have closed down, and that the population has gone down.

Free topic

Hi there! I'm Lane and I am here to share with you some things I love! Tacos, Texas, tractors, trucks, family, football and my horse Rocky. The things I love the most would probably be Family, Rocky, and Texas. Let me tell you about these 3 things and what they mean to me. First I'll start with my horse Rocky. He is a 7 year old red roan cutting horse with a total earnings of $24,807.79 and is my best friend. I met him about a year ago and I instantly knew he was the horse for me he had my attitude, and was pretty funny. He may not be funny to any random person, but I can look at him when he is walking and start laughing, he just cracks me up and I don't know why. The next thing I want to tell you about is family. Family is one of the most. I don't know what I would do without my Mom and Dad or my brothers. They support me in everything. Even though we may not like each other at time we still love one another. the last and final thing I'll tell you about is Texas. Texas means so much to e. Texas is where I always want to be. In fact I want to move back to Texas. My family owns a ranch in south Texas and there is no place I would rather be. I will always long for Texas until I move there it's jus something about the place.

Me Earl and the Dying Girl response

One thing I liked most about Me Earl and the dying girl was that the moms of the two main characters made the two main characters become friends, it brought the story together. Their friendship could've gone anyway. It could've been a complete disaster, but everything turned out ok. When I first got this book I didn't have any idea what it was about, and I think if I knew what it was about I wouldn't have read it, because I like action stories, but I'm glad I made the decision to read it.. I think it could've been better if the author added some cool situations into it like the main character, his friend, and the girl with cancer were trying to find a cure for cure and someone else was also looking for a cure and it was a race against time to find the cure. That would've added much more action and I think it would entice more people to read it in my opinion. Overall I liked this book and would recommend it to anyone.
